American soprano Janet
Williams has won critical acclaim for performances at the Metropolitan
Opera, Berlin Staatsoper, Paris Opera, Opera de Lyon, Nice Opera,
Geneva Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Cologne Opera, Leipzig Opera,
Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, San Francisco Opera,
Washington Opera, Dallas Opera and Michigan Opera Theatre as well as in
concerts throughout Europe, North America, Canada, Israel and Japan
with conductors including Daniel Barenboim, René Jacobs, Sir
Neville Marriner, Zubin Mehta, Kent Nagano, Donald Runnicles and
Michael Tilson Thomas.
Janet Williams’ operatic and concert repertoire
spans genres of musical styles from Baroque to Contemporary. She has
coached with some of the most celebrated singers and teachers of our
times, including Camilla Williams, Reri Grist, Helen Donath, Marilyn
Horne, Regine Crespin, Mirella Freni and most recently, with noted
vocal pedagogue David Jones.
The soprano’s
interest in “performance enhancement” led her to
master the optimal performance methods of noted sports and performance
psychologists Barry Green, Timothy Gallwey, Don Greene and Alma Thomas.
She holds a Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from Indiana
University and Bachelor of Music Degrees in Voice and Music Education
from Michigan State University.
When
not performing, Janet Williams leads a variety of performance master
classes, workshops and seminars in London, Paris and Berlin,
through her company, Performance Enhancement by Design.
She also maintains a voice studio in Berlin, Germany, where she lives
with her husband, stage director and set designer Fred Berndt.
